Health Policy:
In order to do my best to keep children at the center, I ask that you not bring your child to school if the following symptoms are occurring:
-Sluggishness or unusual drowsiness without an explanation (not just because they didn’t sleep enough the night before) -contagious disease (pink eye, chicken pox, etc.) -blood or mucus in stool -Vomiting -diarrhea -difficulty breathing -unexplained rash -child has a temperature of 101 degrees F. -Child cannot fully participate in activities for the day -child needs much more attention than I can provide.
I will send home a note if I believe a child may not be feeling well. I will provide this information so you can obtain appropriate treatment and/or plan for the possibility of your child needing to stay home. If a child is sent home sick (with any of the above symptoms), the form will indicate that the child should not return to the center until he or she is well or being treated by a physician and meets the other criteria for particular illnesses.
After leaving a Center ill, a child must be free of symptoms and fever for 24 hours before returning to the Center. A child may return after being on an antibiotic for 24 hours if they are feeling better. All parents must have emergency plans established to care for ill children.
Weather Policy:
Children will be playing outdoors daily as long as the weather permits. The general rule states that they will be permitted outdoors if the temperature is between 10 and 100 degrees F. Of course, this will be determined also if there is lightning, thunder, excessive rain or snow, etc. Please pay close attention to the weather before dressing your child. I suggest that you leave a few things here such as: rain boots, extra shoes, rain coat, light coat, and sun hats for the warmer weather. Every child MUST HAVE A SUN HAT in the classroom at all times. They will be required to wear these outside. I find it very important to protect our young ones from the sun. Once it is cooler outside, winter gear may be brought in and summer gear will be taken home. I will send home letters once it is time to change the seasonal gear in our classroom. For the winter, you are expected to provide: waterproof snow pants, waterproof winter coat, waterproof winter boots, hats, and gloves. It has been said that the more time spent outside, the less germs that will be in the classroom. Even if your child has a cough, runny nose, mild cold, etc., they will be going outside. If you feel that your child is not well enough to go outside that day, please do not bring them to class. Outdoor time is very important in the learning process!
