Welcome to my In-Home Daycare!
I just want to assure you that the classroom is always changing. New things are being introduced regularly and the children are always learning.
Dear Families,
Introduction: My name is Mrs. Hopkins, and I would just like to welcome you and your child to my daycare classroom. I have the feeling that we will be having a lot of fun this year for we have a lot of creativity and imagination in store for us. I personally plan on getting to know each family and child very well because I feel that it is what is best for the children.
About Me:
I attended Ball State University where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology along with two minors; Interpersonal Relations (counseling psychology), and human development. I do my very best to be empathetic, caring, and passionate about my job and children. I have been around children for many years and understand the importance of a loving caregiver, as well as their loving families. My favorite book regarding this age group is “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” I find this book a very good children’s book because it has a sing-song rhythm which makes it easy for the children to remember, as well as talks about different types of animals.
My Philosophy:
I worked in a daycare setting for four years through college and it became clear to me that I should open my own one day. That day has come, and it has been an experience already. My philosophy for this daycare is to provide children with the safe and loving environment just as a home provides, as well as have a child centered curriculum. During the year, I plan on tailoring to each of the children’s learning abilities and ages. I understand fully that children learn at a different pace and some need more attention than others. I plan on providing each child with the care that they need and deserve. We will start the year off by learning more about each child and what they are made of such as their favorites, what they like to do, etc.
Curriculum:
There will be math and literacy activities including daily counting, learning the alphabet, learning to write names, learning shapes and colors, and much more, depending on the age of the child. We will be looking at different sizes of objects and comparing them and focusing on questions that require thinking. We will learn rhymes and songs that include numbers and spelling and will be tracing shapes with our pencils in our journals. We will be spending circle time listening to stories about the seasons along with helping to make up our own stories. We will be using small shapes to count, along with making mosaic pictures and learning how the shapes look.
Family Partnership:
In order for a child to get the best out of the daycare, family involvement must be present. I firmly believe that most children learn more effectively when the families are involved in their learning. You are the children’s first and most important teacher. Children begin learning far beyond what we give them credit for. In order for me to develop a relationship with each family and child, I offer my trust and respect.
Ways I will specifically encourage partnership in child care:
One way I will encourage partnership is hosting a house opening where families can come by to visit. I will allow the family to set up an appointment to ensure that I am home, and show them around. I would be open to any and all questions at that time and will present them with a family packet full of helpful information. Another way partnership will be encouraged in my child care center is through the family packets. Within, there will be information about myself, my theories, the curriculum, and much more that would be necessary for the family to know before enrolling their child. This will allow families to get to know me and what I am about before trusting their child with me.
In closing, I would like to remind you that I have an open door policy. You may come in and visit when you feel the need. You can also feel free to get a hold of me when you have questions or concerns face to face, by e-mail, or by phone.
